Your Environment
We must all do as much as possible to help our environment and protect our future generations.
By owning a plot and tree in Michael's Wood you can help create additional permanent woodland on mineral soils that have low carbon content. As the trees grow they will sequester (absorb and store) CO2 pollution and in so doing, help with the fight against climate change.
As an example of how much carbon you produce take an average sized family car (1.4-2.1 litre) travelling 12,000 miles per year. This will produce approximately 3.65 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum. Six trees growing to maturity will absorb that carbon dioxide and reinstate carbon neutrality, giving you 12,000 miles of carbon neutral driving.
The Environment Minister David Miliband has launched the government's new online carbon calculator which allows you to calculate your personal carbon footprint.
Your tree planting will create woodland with the potential to benefit future generations as well as your own carbon emissions.
